LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Katty Kaitazoff ("KK") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

KK : Since I was a little girl my interest with design was big. Always loved drawing, painting, creating.. Since the teen age I study fashion design, painting draws, art related things. Then I went to University of Architecture and Urbanism. There I loved to learn how to do projects of houses, building, interior design, furniture design, and all that envolves art.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

KK : Was a natural thing for me to become a designer. It was always my passion, and my dream to be professional related with design.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

KK : I choose, obviously. None of my parents or any family work related to design or art.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

KK : Right now I design furniture and interior design, and I hope to continue designed that.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

KK : Study, do a lot of research, do what you love, and don't give up. Believe on your potencia!

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

KK : A combination of good visual esthetics plus function plus innovation. That's a really good design.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

KK : Quality of life. Design is everywhere. On you furnitures, on your cloths, on the logos you see everyday...The better the design, the better your day to day life will be.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

KK : Skyscraper project is on my list of dreams.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

KK : Zaha Hadid. Did always what seems impossible to do.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

KK : The JADE Chair is my favorite design by now. A delicate design with so much confort and unique shapes. What I like the most on it, are the very different shapes you can see from diferente angles. From the front, you see a small size chair, low and kind of round shape. But from the sides you can see a thin chair and a incredible diamond shape.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

KK : I can't imagine that.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

KK : Design is everything. Design is everywhere. Everything that the human been created, had a design part on it. By thinking the function, the visual, the purpose, it all is design.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

KK : The professor of the University I was graduated were the biggest help, they teach me the history of the design and arts, and then how to do it my self.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

KK : More furniture design, interior design projects, architecture design..

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

KK : Design sets the trends.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

KK : The technology is very important to me. I use technology on the creating part, with 3d modeling and studying, but also on the manufacturing the technology helps to do things that wasn't able before.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

KK : 3D Modeling softwares, 3D printing...

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

KK : White, home, salad, spring, pencil, my oun.
