LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Arnošt Vespalec ("AV") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AV : I am industrial designer, curently completing my masters design degree at Brno university of technology in Brno, Czech Republic. My Bechelor Degree programme Applied science in Engineering in the field of Industrial Design has completed in Brno in 2015. I consider myself as a product designer.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AV : I've always been thinking and dreaming about many various things. And my grandma Ludmila called me the "Why-boy" because nobody could see me, but I was heared. She was very good painter and gifted person. This is main reason why i chose to become a designer, but there was many and many other aspects, that helped me to follow this path of life.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AV : I chose to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AV : It depends on, for what and whom the design is and what purposes is for. I wish to work and cooperate to design beauty things, that has a higher sense.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AV : I would like to tell everyone of them, that everything is based on hard work. You should work hard on yourself no matter what everyone says.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AV : Philosophy of life.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AV : A really good design You are not able to see, you feel it.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

AV : Happiness

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

AV : Leonardo Da Vinci, Jacque Fresco, Raymond Loewy etc.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

AV : Try to think in large span. Everything is connected to each other, try to understand above.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

AV : I do not feel like a great designer, but I try to answer that question. It's a complex work of many people around me my family, friends, girlfriend and in case of design of Wiris the management of Ing. Jan Kovář from Workswell company.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

AV : I was the most difficult obstacle.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

AV : To be a good human.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

AV : Changing points of interest and

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

AV : I would like to see a clever ideas of design, that improve our society status into civilization status.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AV : Every new design has a new begin and an individual approach.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

AV : Everything is possible.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

AV : The same priority as a design.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

AV : Role? this properties has a huge impact on that.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

AV : It's philosophy book named Budidharma.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

AV : Purple, everywhere in the virgin nature, spring, all beautiful

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

AV : Perhaps yes, I loved and I still like LEGO or CHEVES and I always played with this game as a child and dreamed of being able to design a star ship or a high-tech vehicle. I still dream about it, but I don't have time to play with.
