LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Eleonora Venzaga ("EV") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

EV : In 2016 I completed my education as a graphic designer at IED (European Institute of Design) in Rome. Afterward, I started to work as a graphic designer since today, I live and work actually in Rome.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

EV : I think that the most beautiful thing I am attracted to in this world is the possibility of helping to make information an interesting thing and also beautiful to see.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

EV : I've always imagined myself as a successful designer, there's still a long way to go, I knew what I wanted to do and I tried to become one.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

EV : Mainly brand identity, following a project from birth to continuous evolution over time. I also love to devote myself to pure graphic design, typography, and illustration even if I am not an illustrator, but who knows in time could be another goal.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

EV : I'm not yet a design legend, but the important thing is to study the basics of design and keep up to date and continue to deepen your passion. Creating and communicating is not a pastime.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

EV : Of course the idea, and the realization. A project conceived and with a strong identity will always be successful compared to others. The aesthetic aspect is our showcase to stop people is already a success, giving them a reason to get passionate is the other.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

EV : Because a world without communication cannot exist today. Making good communication means investing in the common good.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

EV : One of my dreams in the drawer is to take over the creative direction of a big fashion brand.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

EV : I believe that the inspiration comes from all the historical and artistic context that has accompanied us until today. My favorite artistic currents are Impressionism, and Bauhaus, which has distorted the artistic canons, creating a dynamic and experimental design.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

EV : Continuing to study, and to go to workshops even parallel to my skills.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

EV : Maybe if I hadn't embarked on this artistic career my other options were, to become a helicopter pilot and a neurosurgeon.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

EV : For me, the design is everything that surrounds us, from magazines to bus tickets to road signs, and design is also in our homes. It's everywhere, just look.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

EV : A little bit myself, a little bit my family, my mother in particular, who always understood what I wanted in life, and helped me in the choice since I was a child.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

EV : Experience is the basis of everything, I still have a long way to go, but I can't wait to go.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

EV : My winning project, create the image of a communication studio.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

EV : I always hope in the perspective of always improving, so I wish more attention to the details that are the most important thing.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

EV : It depends on the project in question, you can take months, days, nights. Surely having more time is always useful in finalizing things with more precision.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

EV : “Nothing its impossible”

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

EV : Technology Helps all designers in the implementation and execution phase.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

EV : I trust in Adobe Suite

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

EV : the color and the material are essential, the final product is composed of several things all have to be in harmony and you can not go back.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

EV : Wow. I have to remember that!

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

EV : A partner with the same expectations as I do. In my opinion, a couple or group work is the best, not by chance: "union makes strength".

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

EV : One, in particular, is "How to..." by Micheal Bierut.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

EV : My favorite color is green, my favorite place nature, the food is the hamburger, the season is the fall, and my favorite object is the pencil.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

EV : I believe in the idea that every day we can do better. And every day is important to become who you want to be.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

EV : I hope that with these climate changes there will still be the world I know, and I see a world where technology will take over but I hope it will find the best solutions for everything.
